How to Freeze Your Commercial Real Property Assessment

The fall in commercial real estate prices across Georgia means you should review the assessment of the value your county assessor has placed on of your real estate. If you appeal your real estate taxes to the board of equalization the property assessment is frozen for the tax year in question as well as the following two years (O.C.G.A 48-5-299(c). If you appeal, the BOE can raise it but in my experience that rarely happens. If you however, make improvements to your property the freeze will not apply to property with the improvements.
